Lots of things had changed since I last posted. But my plan to hitch hiking haven't. I am definitely still go for it. I decided I'm going to wait till this spring. Last week, I was standing outside of airport in Buffalo waiting for the bus where the weather was so damn cold. I suffered and my toes suffered. I couldn't handle it after 20 minutes. So....month outside in the cold? Think NOT. I want to really enjoy it.
So I probably will not be posting anything here for a long while. Im currently in Ontario and is going enjoy my time here with friends and family. Then will go back to British Columbia for about month or so. When Im all done there, that's when I ll be doing the hitch crap on the way back to Ontario and start living my life there.
So Ill be back this spring.

My original dream
What I really want is to do both hitchhiking and freight train hopper. But for freight hopper, I find that in order to do that, I will need to keep my ears on things around me. Of course, I can still do that. But is lots of work, especially for my eyes where I ll have to be alert all the time. Not to mention, lots of risks. I ll need know where the safe train yard is, their schedules, where to jump in and out spots. I ll also need to be aware when they will put the stuff in the boxcar without hurting me. When I ll need to ran and duck if anyone suspected someone is out there in the yard. Too much but it still sound awesome, don't you think?
Now if I want go from hitchhiking to freight hopper....Or freight hopper to hitchhiking...I wont be able to know how easy or hard it will for me to across between the highway and train track, plus the trespassing and above of all, its illegal. Its not worth the trouble.
So I decided to stick with highway.

Why?
Lots people may think its stupid, crazy and too risk for me to go. I understand completely, but let me explain why I want to do this. Some people don't understand the thrill feeling of this. I love the nature and the environment, I just never can get enough of it. I would rather just sit there and stare at gorgeous scenery than eat my favorite food.
Hitchhiking, you get the chance to see the close up details of it.
The media tell you all the scary stories about hitchhikers, enough to keep you off the roads. But there are plenty of blogs by women who did all the hitchhiking around the world. You would be surprised by how many does that, despite the media warnings.
Remember, the driver picking up the hitchhiker is also taking a chance. He/she does not want to get in bad situation too.
Here the post I found from some chick.
I am not so pessimistic about hitchhiking in Canada though, because I do get a lot of good lifts, and other people tell me that they like picking up hitchhikers, that for example they themselves used to also hitchhike.
In the 50s and 60s it was much more common to hitchhike. But these days, in different ways, people are taught to be afraid. The media image and the government give us hitchhikers and the concept of sharing a bad image. Also in general terms, people are taught to be afraid of others.
That's a big shame.

Getting started
I have been living in different places since I left college. But apparently I'm never satisfied. Then one afternoon (Yes, I slept in till after lunch) I woke up, realizing I want to hitchhiking across Canada. Something I have been want to try for a long while. From that day, I have been doing nothing but doing lots of research about it. The more information I get, the more excited I am about this. Just wish I have done this ages ago.
Right now, I have not shared my plan with anyone but some very few people for their supports and advises to help get me to start. I know this is not something most people would want me to do. Mostly because people think its dangerous.Well yes it is, but its not as dangerous if I am being careful. I want to do it solo, but since I am being careful, I am going to find a partner.
I want to start hitchhiking soon. Since the winter had already began, that would mean I might will be doing this through the winter time. First step- I'm going start walking in the cold weather with snow everyday so my body can get used to the cold weather with heavy clothes on.
That is all. Now I'm off to walk in cold weather!
